The competition asked for the development of a prototypical sport hall design concept, one which should allow for a fast, efficient and sustainable erection thanks to a high degree of prefabricated and modular elements. The halls are intended to be built all around Berlin. Therefore the design requires a high flexibility for different premises and urban contexts.
The design approach was to create a simple, yet innovative solution to these requirements. To achieve this, the main body of the sports hall was designed as a "box" and split into prefabricated wall and roof elements meeting common transportation dimensions. This self-supported box (spanning 22m in configuration 1 and 27m in configuration 2) can be flexibly extended by side rooms and stands.
